My usb connection to my sony digital video camera seems to capture ok. If I get a firewire card (dv in\out) can I expect any difference in the captured video?

Are you able to capture without compression and without any frames dropped? You can with Firewire.

Firewire is capable of copying the video directly without further compression (DV is 1:5 compression -- I'm assuming you mean a DV camera) and will give you the best quality. I don't know the format you're getting with usb, but usb 1.1 can only transfer 1.5MB/s so you'll either have an mpeg or a low bitrate avi, and either way it's probably much lower resolution.

Thorn, banjazzer, thanks for your replies. It did seem like the mpeg image was a little choppy. I'll get the firewire card asap.
