  1. I've found several guides explaining how to get the best out of CCE, but most of them are for NTSC. Does anyone know the best settings to re-encode a 4:3 PAL DVD? I think I should use the following, but could someone correct me if I'm wrong!?

    MPEG-2 Video Settings
    Add sequence end code
    Linear Quantizer Scale
    Zigzag scanning order
    DVD Compliant
    Luminance Level: 16 to 235
    Timecode 00:00:00:00

Also in the GOP menu, I change settings to M=3 N/M=4. I also change the image quality priority to 5.

I presume I don't need to check "Progressive frames" as the source is PAL.

    Thanks for youe help!

The only check boxes I use for PAL are:

    Add sequence end code
    Upper field first
    DVD compliant
    Luminance level 16 to 235
    Timecode 01:00:00:00

In the GOP menu the correct settings for PAL are M=3, N/M=5

Check CRC should be enabled in the Audio menu.

In version 2.64 the natural state of the encoder is upper field first, and checking the upper field first box toggles the state to lower field first which is required for PAL (this is the exact opposite of version 2.50).

The timecode 00:00:00:00 has a special function according to Cinemacraft and should not be used.

    Hope this helps you, regards.

well I have to say that DONT USE AUDIO AT ALL with CCE!

you SHOULD use the timecode 00:00:00:00 or you could have problems later with authoring programs!

you SHOULD use Bitrate Viewer to see what options you need to check in CCE and what you dont need to check.

    Zzzzzzzzz

I have more often than not heard the fact that time code ( all 0's ) is not the best to use and that other ( 1, all 0's ) is better.

By far the best quality can be achieved, just make sure to reduce the setting qualiy/image complxity to 5-10.

CCE doesn't know if you are trying to encode interlaced PAL or 24fps video sped up to 25fps. I suggest that you check PROGRESSIVE FRAMES.

I've also heard of that 01:00:00 timecode thing, but I've always changed my timecodes to 00:00:00 and I don't have any problems (I would really like a decent explanation as to the whysand why not of this timecode with the "1" thing).
