I just bought a new power supply and it allows me to overclock my CPU more than the old one.
I can overclock it to 1200Mhz, but I need to run the RAM at the same speed as my FSB, which is 109Mhz, at that setting.
OR
I can run the processor at 1166Mhz and run the RAM at the FSB+PCI clock, which comes out to 141Mhz.
Which scenario is going to be faster, in terms of video rendering?
I ran a test with Virtualdub, with the following settings:
352X480
Huffyuv
10 second clip
Divx conversion, 1 pass - quality based at 100%
The first scenario ran 1 second faster, but I'm not sure if the file size might make a difference. (18s vs. 19s)

In case anyone else was curious, it seems that upping the CPU/FSB speed is more beneficial than the speed of the RAM.
I ran a few more tests, this time with Tmpgenc.
Here are the times and specs.
30 second clip
352X480, huffyuv compression
CPU 1100Mhz, FSB 100Mhz, RAM 133Mhz
VCD (standard settings) - 57 seconds
SVCD (standard settings) - 1:53
CPU 1200Mhz, FSB 109Mhz, RAM 109Mhz
VCD (standard settings) - 1:03
SVCD (standard settings) - 2:01
It'll still take me all night to rip and encode a DVD, but at least I'll save a few minutes. My electric bill wil be a few pennies smaller, this month.
