Cannot open Nero

I tried to open Nero burner but got a message saying that another application is using Windows burner engine (IMAPI). How to I close the other application, whatever it is? I've closed all the progams, so I don't know what else is there.

I also tried to burn a audio CD with Windows Media Player. But it's not detecting my CD burner. My CD burner is connected, I have even used it before both on Nero and Windows Media Player.

Restart the computer and open Nero first,if it still doesn't work,on your keyboard press control-alt-delete,a box should pop up showing you all the programs that are running. See if one of them is a burning program.

I've tried all that but it's still giving me the same message.

By any chance, did you have another CD burning application before you installed Nero? Such as Roxio/Adaptec's Easy CD Creator? That application has to be pretty much removed before Nero will work. (I had to go into regedit and remove every trace of the stinking thing before I could get Nero to work reliably. Uninstall didn't uninstall enough.)

Other than that, I suggest you check out the help forums at http://www.nero.com for ideas. Their forum is confusing and badly organized (which you wouldn't expect from Germans) but they have a lot of good information there.
