Bit of a long story, sorry.....
I just bought myself a new Philipsdvd793 5 disc dvd player that plays vcd -AND SVCD, which my other player did not- because of a few problems with my other player.
NOW......(this is in regards to my OLD player now)....I had many vcds that I could not watch on my old player, got the black screen and rolling lines. Thought maybe they were PAL , and the older player didn't play PAL. Then I find out how to switch the old player TO PAL, and they still didn't play. Ok, my tv must not display pal images..........
Those vcds now play fine in this new player but some of the vcds that I had NO problems with in the old player, now they WON'T play right!! The audio is choppy ( not a great analogy, but first thing that comes to mind is the sound reminds me of a helicopter), and the picture seems to be skipping from one frame to the next, not playing smoothly!!! How bizarre is this......the ones I could never watch in my "lesser" model play fine, but ones that are fine in the older player don't!!!
Anybody else ever run into anything like this, or have any clues??
Thanks,
Randall
PS........ Shoulda mentioned.....just in case anyone might think, "well hell, the ones he had that wouldn't play in the old player musta been SVCD".....no, that actually was NOT the case, and a couple of them worked after I converted them to NTSC and reburned, but now even the PAL originals work. And this new player identifies the discs as vcd or svcd when it scans them, and the only one it has called a svcd is one I already KNEW was svcd. But I would really like to know why some that would play in the Philips dvddvd751 now won't in the new dvd793!
