I have started frameserving\encoding everything I rip at 23.976 fps. Doing this I get no problems at all with audio\video sync, scanlines or motion blur.

Are there any drawbacks to doing this for NTSC that may not be obvious?

    Thanks

  2. It all depends on what your source is and what your intended outout is. If your source is donloaded avi's, be careful, some are encoded at 29.97fps and some are PAL at 25fps so doing this would definatley screw things up.
Also, if you are converting to VCD, I have read on these forums that some players do not handle 23.97fps well.

Most current DVDs are encoded as 24fps FILM (except for some studio logos, but that's usually OK), so encoding them to VCD that way works fine. Some DVDs are done at 30 or have a hybrid of 24 and 30, you'll have problems if you do those at 24 unless they were telecined to 30 and you do an inverse telecine to get them back to 24.

OK guys thanks. I have in fact run into a hybrid, but running it through DVD2AVI using force film fixed things well.
