  1. hey there, i have been using the guides to rip a full dvd to a dvdr. the way i do it is i rip the entire dvd in file format with dvd decryptor. then i use vobrator to view which vod id's i should keep from the main movie voz's. then i use ifo edit to strip the selected id's from those vob files and the files i create, i burn.

the problem i am having is that most of the time, the final files i output end up being far too big to fit onto a dvd. is this the case with most dvd's ? is there a quicker easier and more logical way to copy an entire movie without menu's and all that crap? all i want is the main movie. thank you

  2. It IS typical of most movies these days to NOT fit on a 4.7 gig disc. Sometimes though, you can get lucky and remove enough of the alternate audio and subtitle streams, and be left with less than a DVD-r worth of data. I have ripped 30 discs already, and maybe 5-10 were able to fit on a DVD-r without needing to re-encode the video. Since you are using DVD decryptor, which i use, I will tell you my steps to easily see if it will fit.

    1. Open DVD decryptor, go to settings, then go to the IFO tab. Change the settings for File Splitting and change it to None.

    2. When you rip the DVD, change it to use IFO mode. I have found no negatives to ripping in IFO mode compared to file mode. Choose the longest PGC on the IFO list, its not always the 1st one, but its usually the biggest. Sometimes discs have 16:9 and 4:3 video, so u may need rip twice if you want one or the other(these types of movies can usually be spotted by having 2 long identical timed PGCs.

    3. After selcting the right PGC, go to Stream processing. Take the streams that u want, I usually get the DTS or 6 channel audio only, since i have the receiver for it, but you may only want the 2 channel audio. On each of the items that you have checked in the streams list click on each one individually, then change the button from Direct Stream Copy to Demux. You have to assign the action of demuxing to each stream.

    4. Rip it. Check the files that you get by geting Properties on the folder. Look at the big bytes listing not the one that says GB or MB. If its gonna fit on a DVD-r its gonna have to be under 4483 megs. If it is more. then its not gonna fit without removing some more streams, or going from 5.1 to 2 channel sound.

    Hope this helps

  4. Hmm, not quite sure what the problem is. When are you being told you cannot write to file? A little info might help others to help you...

I am new to DVD 2 DVDr. Have made 100's of VCD's and SVCD's using Clad, DVD2AVI, and Tmpeg.
A really quick way to backup DVD9 to DVD5 is to use the "Split to 2 DVD-R's" functionality in IFOEdit. Burn to RW's first just to test. BYW aren't DVD-RW's awesome. They can save you alot of money. Haven't really made any coasters because of them. I have a Pioneer 104 writer and a Philips 711 set top player. The disk play fine on computer. The player is a different story. I backed up Joe Somebody and it works fine on my player. It is a DVD5 original. Not a problem. Backed up Blackhawk Down and split to 2 DVD-r's and it plays 8 or so chapters then freezes and runs through the other 7 really fast on both the first disk and the second. Plays fine all the way through on the computer. ?????
I have used Pioneer, Memorex, and EMTEC DVD-r and -RW media. Same situation on all. Has anyone else seen this problem?

  6. I will try again tonight with a different DVD and i will let you know that error messege. I tried ripping with 2 different drives and i got it both times at about 77 percent into the rip. Once these are ripped, what prog do i use to burn and put the files together since they are demuxed ?

If you know that the DVD will not fit on one DVDR then there are several ways to split the movie. Have you looked at the new program DVDSplit from Derrow who created IfoEdit?

    The process is:
    1. Run DVD Decrypter to extract video to HD.
    2. Execute DVDSplit to make a DISC1 & DISC2 directories.
    3. Burn to DVD

It is just for splitting DVDs to 2 DVD-Rs. It will create perferct working backups.
It is easy to use, and almost everything will be done automatic.
    It's a Wizard-style application.
This app should fix the problem with the 'Illegal Navigation error occured'., and the "DVD Video files allocation failure" in Nero.
And it is even faster then IfoEdits implementation, cause it doesn't need to correct VobUnit pointers .-)
To burn your splitted DVDs, you will need Nero burning ROM, or VobInstant DVD.
