  1. hello i have downloaded an avi file which is 1.30hr long but i only have a 80 min cd so how can i split the file into two halfs so that i can put say 1 hour on the first cd and 30 minutes on the second.

    please can you help me

  2. alternatively you could make an xvcd that would allow you to burn up to 2 hours of material onto an 80 minute disc. of course yor stand alone dvd player would have to support this.iv'e done loads of these discs and never had any compatibility problems from friends who've borrowed them. the quality of the finished article depends on the length of the movie but i've quite often had bitrates that are higher than the standard vcd, even a couple that approach svcd bitrates. the guide on how to do it can be found on this site.

    You didn't mention in what format did you want to put your file on CDR/RW. If you want to keep it as AVI then it has to be burned in Mode 1 (data CD) and it doesn't matter how long is your movie as long as it is no bigger than 700MB for 700MB CDR (so it could be 4 hours long and still fit onto 1 CDR). If you are encoding it to (S)VCD then it matters, you could use Virtual Dub to split it in half and encode each half separately OR split it in your preferred encoder when setting everything up.
