  1. hey all,

I have a question (actually two): why when I convert AVI to MPG with TMPGEnc the image when played in my computer is smaller (than the one with the AVI)? Will it make a difference in my TV after I burn it and watch it with my DVD?

    thanks,
    take care.

  2. By smalller do you mean pieces of the original picture are missing or is just a different size?

  3. it's a different size.

the film i converted was widescreen. it's still widescreen, but smaller in size. my only fear is that it will be too small in the tv.

it says 325X240 (size) in TMPGEnc, is it ok for an average TV?

  4. I find that my dvd player seems to play the movies the same way they look on your computer. It should still play fine. Dont forget most tvs dont have nearly as good resolution as most computr monitors.

The further away you sit from the screen the better it looks.

That is the standard resolution for VCD (for NTSC, pal is 352*288). In order to be sure any mpeg will play on your DVD player, you need to stick to the standards which define things like bitrate, resolution etc. Your DVD player/TV should take those standard (S)VCD's and extend them to fill the screen correctly. Remember, the resolution of a digital video on your PC is NOT the same as the way it will be displayed by the analog circuitry of your DVD player/TV.

it will be better or worse than in the computer? I converted the avi to mpeg with TPMGEnc and found it not very good. the images keeps trembling now and then and it doesn't have a lot of bright as the original one.

Although if you sit too far away, you may not be able to see the TV.

Don't know about the trembling stuff but I certainly find videos tend to look darker on my monitor than on my TV. Maybe its just my crappy cheap monitor!

Do you mean the end result has wrong aspect ratio, or have you lost the left and right parts of the picture?

  11. I'm not sure what the output ratio is but when i play the movie on my DVD player is DOESN'T have the TOP/BOTTOM bars as on the ORIGINAL and the picture looks like it has been STRECHED to full screen. The people all look tall and skinny....

    thanks...

try this on TPMGEnc: go to "settings", then "advanced" and in "video arranged method" change to "full screen (keep aspect ratio)". it probably is only in "full screen".

    that should do it.
