  1. Hi,

I am trying to burn a 716MB of data onto a regular 700 MB cd-r ... is it possible? How can I do that if it is?

    thanks

  2. Use nero, select file, preferences, expert features, and select to allow overburning.

  4. If you were making a S/VCD, with 80min/700MB media and your source files were 716 MB in total, you wouldn't be overburning. Far from it in fact. Because of the burning mode used for S/VCDs, you can fit about 796 MB of video data on an 80min/700MB without overburning.

As to your specific question on whether overburning affects the quality of the video, the answer is generally "NO".

If you try to overburn BEYOND the physical capacity of the disc, however, your movie will be truncated.

Furthermore, there is the hypothetical possibility (though it has never been reported) that the video burnt on the "overburnt" area could be of inferior quality (i.e., poorer data integrity -- more numbers of burning errors).

    Regards.

  5. Thanks for the information ...

However, I am not burning it in mpg mode for to make a s/vcd ... I am just trying to burn it as data (in avi format) ... does it work the same?

    thanks.

If it's data your burning in mode 1 which limits you to 700MB. To overburn you need a CD burner that supports overburning and you need software that allows overburning. Both Nero and NTI CD-Maker support overburning. Finaly you need the 90 or 99 minute CDR's. I've only used 10 99 minute CDR's but they burned and played normally for me.

You don't need 90 or 99 minute cdr's to overburn, although these will obviously allow more data to be written. But if you are just a few MB's over the limit of your disc you can overburn on 74 or 80 minute media. How much extra you can get on these disc will depend on your burner and the media.
