I finally did a TMPGEnc DVD encode last night using Xp Pro with an Athlon XP 2100, 386DDR. I know, I'm bragging. . Anyways, from my lesson from upgrading from an 850MHz Athlon to a 1.4G I wans't really expecting much of a speed boost, 15%-20% at best. I set the encoder last night before I went to bed and was expecting it to be done by the time I got home from work the next day. Wake up in the morning, it had encoded LOTR in 6hrs11mins! I was pretty sure I had screwed up somewhere and checked the settings and they were as I had left them, 2pass VBR, 10bit precision and highest quality and at full res. Is this just a fluke or does the combo of my new sys really perform that well?

  2. It isn't XP, it's your 2100 and 386DDR that did the "wonders". I got 1900+ and 512DDR and get about the same for your settings, so it's pretty normal.

  4. Encoding speed is (mostly) related to your CPU speed. XP has NOTHING to do with it.
