Hi,
Wondering what would be the preferred way of taking a DVD of say Simpson episodes and ripping and encoding it so that I could pick and choose the episodes I wanted to keep and still have some kind of menu structure when I re-burn to DVD-R. Would it be better to:
1. Rip using DVD Decrypter
2. DVD2AVI to .ac3 and .d2v file.
3. combine in TMPGEnc and edit and save each epsiode as maybe mpeg2 or mv2?
4. Pull into authoring program, say DVDit PE or ulead WS/FS, and create menu structure for each epsiode
Really the end result is I would like to take DVD of Simpsons season 1 and grab maybe 5 episodes, and maybe 3 episodes from my Season 2 DVD, combine them onto one DVD-R with an easy way to pick the desired episode. Seems like my 4 step way is a round about way of doing it, anyone think of a better way... Thanks, any suggestions to improve would be appreciated.

I just made a 5 DVD-R backup set for the 10 "Band of Brothers" episodes. The method I used may also work for you.
1. Rip the main movie file set for each episode seperately to different folders. (I used Smart Ripper.) Band of Brothers has two episodes per DVD: the 1st episode is found under PGC-1, the 2nd under PGC-2. After ripping you have 2 sets of VOB files for each disc.
2. Rename the 2nd set of VOB files so that they follow the 1st set sequentially, then copy the 2nd set to the same folder as the 1st.
3. Start Infoedit and use "Create Ifo's" to generate new IFO files.
3. Use "VOB extras" in Infoedit to strip and write VOB files to a new directory.
4. Open your new VIDEO_TS file under the new directory and run "Get VTS sectors".
5. Test your completed set of files with your software player.
6. Start DVD2SVCD and reencode your files.
7. Load the AC3 and MPV files into SpruceUp and divide your MPEG file into 2 chapters, the 2nd chapter starting at the beginning of the 2nd episode.
8. Use Spruceup to create a new menu.
9. Burn your DVD-R using whatever your preference. I found Prassi to be better than Nero for desktop player compatibility.
