Hello everyone. I have been surfing your site and must say it has been one of my best sources of info on video editing. I have been building up my new system the last week and haven't bought a sound card yet. I was wondering if I can use the a7v333 c-media onboard sound? I tried to capture some super8 video and although the ati radeon 8500dv video capture was great, no lost frames, I could not get the audio portion. I have been using the ulead videostudio 6 that came with the ati card. Thanks in advance and I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get into the world of dv. Its just too cool. Brian![]()

Hello Brian,
There are know issues (problems) using an AIW card w/ the CMedia onboard sound. I had problems with my AIW and hissing sound with captured audio. Then I upgraded to a Philips Seismic Edge 5.1 card, now it works perfectly.
If you are not getting any sound at all, make sure you have an audio cable connected b/t the AIW card and the sound card (CMedia's is on the motherboard). Also, check your recording sound options (control panel > multimedia or sound, depending on your O/S). Make sure the input you are using on the card for the AIW is enabled. If it's not, then you won't get any sound.
BTW, there are some awesome forums for ATI owners at Rage 3D Forums -
Hi Brian, I don't know about other but I use AIW 8500DV with C-media 8738 5 channel (on board) and so far I have no problem. I've been capture from TV (RF), VCR(composite) and DV (firewire) and all have sound without hissing. Make sure you connect everything as it should be (the purple cable connect to line in and the green one to speaker jack, record sound should be at " line in".
NOTE: For DV transfering/capturing with Ulead Video Studio, you might not hear any sound while transfering/capturing but the sound is there when playback. I didn't install any driver and software which come in package, I use all the upgrade one from website. -
Make sure you have the audio connector from your ATI card connected to the line in on your onboard sound. Also, make sure that line in is selected as the source for the audio in MMC.

Thanks to all for replying. I found that line in was muted on the audio control panel. That fixed and now I get great sound when I capture from my super 8 video camera. When I ran one of the ulead vs6 tests, it did say the c-media clock was not as stable as it should be and that it may cause some synch problems. But so far, the sound seems to be insynch with the video. Now I just have to learn how to use vs6. Can anyone comment on whether I should spend to time learning this system, or should I get busy learning another such as adobe primier. Thanks again.

I also have an Asus A7V333- raid, I have sound problems also, but mine is the recorded volume is low, not inaudiable, but low, about 2-3 dB. I read other people having this problem. I'll check it further this weekend and post my findings.

gf, now that I have the line in not muted, I seem to be getting great sound capture with my video. I did not use the internal audio hookup, just the external ones on the back of the video card. And, although ulead sv6 warned of a possible synch problem, it is not there. At least I can't detect it yet, but then I have only worked with about an hour of raw video trying to learn how to edit. I will be looking for your post. When I was shopping for a sound card, the sales person said that there were some compatibility issues between ati and creative boards. So I have been holding off buying one until I can research it some more.
