  1. Encoded DV footage for MPEG-2 and looks great on analog but very pixellated on wide screen digital. What options should be changed to correct for digital video?

    Thanks.

  2. You did not say what you encoded it to, SVCD or DVD?

A widescreen TV stretch out a 4:3 Video,
so any pixelation will show up even more.

Try to see if when having the TV in 4:3 mode (bars on the sides)
    if the pixalation goes away.

One option would be to cut out the source video on the top
and bottom to give it a 16:9 aspect ratio and
have the TV in Full view mode.

But first try just a really high bitrate and a high motion search
    in tmpgenc.

  3. Thanks for the reply Tony. I encoded to DVD with 8,000 max, 6,000 avg and 2,000 min for 2-pass VBR as well as highest quality motion search precision. I did record and encode the MPEG at 4:3 - maybe there is no way to correct for a better picture on the wide screen digital.

    Thanks again,

  4. The TV may need to be calibrated.

I tried some of my VCDs on a friends 57" widescrean HDTV and they looked horrid, until I turned the Sharp control down to a reasonable level. For some reason he likes to turn it all the way up. hehe.

  5. One more thing, as it was DV format.

The correct settings would be: interlaced (bottom field first)

If a rented DVD looks good, I homemade dvd with same high bitrate
    will look equaly good.
