I got a bunch of divx files that I want to convert to vcd. When I try to convert them in TMPGenc, I get a file that is twice the length, with the second half being just black space, and the audio doesn't play. I put the file into VirtualDub and made the audio into a wav and then put the divx avi in as the video source and the wav as the audio source in TMPGenc. This worked, except that now the audio is a bit out of sync. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? Should I use a different program to seperate them?

  3. Try doing this in virtualdub

    1. video>>>direct stream copy

    2.audio>>>full processing mode

    3.audio>>>conversion>>>44.100

    4.file>>>save as avi....

this will save the audio and the video together with uncompressed audio into one file. then try playing the file with media player. if the audio is in sync, then use this newly created file to encode in tmpgenc (you can still extract the audio from this new file if you want because some people make a habit out of always extracting the audio).

    hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it is still off by a little bit. When the file is loaded in virtualdub, a message comes up that says there will be skew between the video and audio, and if this isn't acceptable, to decompress the audio to wav and recompress at a constant bitrate of 130kbps. What program will allow this? Or what do I do now?

  5. I had this happen to me before too. I can't remember exactly how i fixed it, but i know that virtualdub was the only program i used to do it. I did not change any of the advanced settings either. Try extracting just the video with virtualdub (audio>>>>no audio) then the sound as a wave seperatley. so you will have 2 files, one would be an avi without sound, the second would be the wave file. then try running the two through tmpgenc. if that does not work, then learn about the advanced settings in virtualdub (they can help with audio problems). i know virtualdub has these settings, but i have not needed to use them yet. does anyone else know how these setting work? anyway i'll look for a link to the info. this site might have tutorials for audio problems. sorry i could not be more help.

  6. oh yeah if you do want to try and recompress the wave then you might want to try goldwave ( http://www.goldwave.com/ ). it's a good audio editor. one of the best. it might take a little while to learn, but it's a pretty easy to use program.

  7. Just load your AVI as video and extracted WAV as audio into TMPGEnc, in the Source Range window (page 3/5 in Wizard, tick Source Range box for window to come up, if not using wizard then go to Settings, Advanced tab, tick Source Range box and double click on it) you will find Audio Gap Correct box for adjusting your audio. I would advise to encode a short clip first (when the audio is adjusted) to see if it is in synch before encoding the whole movie. Selecting is done in the same window by moving the bar to the beginning of your clip (preferably where people speak) and pressing Set Start Frame, then moving the bar to the end of your selected clip and pressing Set End Frame.

load the avi back into virtual dub...select direct stream copy then frame rate select audio video duration match resave your avi with the new frame rate and the audio in the avi should be in sync.load into tmpgenc and convert to vcd.tmpgenc will compensate for the new frame rate and the vcd should be in sync. if its not in sync then you may have to reset the audio skew rate (delay).i have a program that does both if this method does not work.try this if it dosen't work i will send you the sync program

Thank you all for your kind replies and thank you, O Kewl. This is all I needed. It was a quick easy fix. Well, not that quick on my old AMD K6, but I rendered a small piece continuously until I got it right. Thanks again.
