I am also in the process of moving into capture. These are my choices. I have ordered
Pyro ProDVD MAJOR PRICE DROP! Now $109.95!!!
w/ Ulead DVD Workshop & Media Studio Pro Director's Cut
http://www.videoguys.com/pyroprodvd.htmlI think this is a bargain considering the soft... got mine herehttp://www.nxgenstore.com/nxgen/itemdesc.asp?ic=77010072100 I like the idea of analog or digital..not knowing which I will want to download into the computer at any given time.
Add price of these items and you are well under the $500 with outstanding user endorsement ! ...Now I just hope it works as good as everyone says...Jim -
The Pyro Pro DV with Canpous ADVCD-100 is an excellent setup. Arguably the best afvailable. In particular, the Canopus ADVC-100 is solid gold. By far the finest analog DV capture card on the market. NO setup hassles, no dropped frames, and rock-solid audio sync. (AVOID all the Dazzle products. They're s***.)
Howefer, bear in mind that if you buy a firewire card you will NOT be able to use VirtualDub in any way, shape or form. VIrtualDubwill NOT capture from a firewire card and VirutalDub will NOT open the AVI files authored by Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.X.
You may want to complain loudly and continuously to the author of VirtualDub until he fixes his grossly defective software. -

Take a look at the Hauppuage PVR-250. With the latest drivers and a tweak via graphedit, it's tough to beat. Office Max has them with a $50 rebate right now, so they only cost $100 after rebate.

Complaing that a program DESIGNED to work with analog capture cards won't capture firewire is rediculous. -
Hmm. This question has never been asked & answered before I'm sure :P But what the heck, good and cheap? Just about any card with a BT8x8 chipset on it, or spend some serious money and get something that might hardly make a difference in the end, depending on source quality, and what/how you convert it to...
