  1. I am not sure if this is right place, but I am looking for cheapest DVD-R media that works with Sony DRU500A. There is a topic "Sony DRU500A - media" that have a lot of posts with a lot of results. This one should be only about media that works 100% ans it is priced.... let's say... bellow $2 or even better $1.

Thank you for helping me to find right media.

I got the DRU500A and everything I have been reading shows great results with Accu media. I just bought a 100 pk for 84 cents shipping included. Find it here:

Please do, I can't get the Meritline 2X DVD-R's to burn at more than 1X even though Nero says it's doing 2x. Meritline won't give me an adjustment for the price difference between 1X and 2X, then say I have to ship back the 2X DVD's then order what I want. I probably won't bother since they do burn at 1X, but I sure won't buy again from Meritline.

  5. Please note that Meritline's Accu DVD-R price is going up. Hope CDRDVDRMedia(Yahoo) does not follow the trend. Accu must be very good compatibility wise. I seldom see media price that goes up.

  6. http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/dvdr.html has some 2x DVD-R for $1.15 each in a 25 spindle, SHIPPED. I'm testing them now.

They also have DVD+R (2.4x) for $1.90 each in the spindle. They SAY they're 1x? but all DVD+Rs I've ever seen do 2.4x. I MAY try these, but I'll call first to verify speed.

They have good deals on combo packs (with cases) as well. Make sure you choose a deal with free shipping if you buy a small amount. I think shipping is high - like $15 - even for just 25 cases.

I've had good results with the Meritline 2.4x DVD+R ($60 for 25 shipped, with cases), but haven't tried the DVD-R.

For the price difference these days, I prefer 2x or 2.4x. Time is worth something, after all...

Bear, you DID update the firmware to 1.0d, right?

  7. Yep, I've got the 1.0d firmware. I ordered those same 2x DVD-R's from allmediaoutlet just a few hours ago, so I sure hope you find out they work ok.

  9. How about now?

Works fine. On my Athlon 1800+ system (with Sony 500 in a firewire box), I burned 2 bad ones - they generated errors toward the end of 2 discs. Discs played fine up to that point, then died. But I was surfing the net at the time...

When I burned them *without* doing anything else, they came out fine. Played on my Pioneer 333, but NOT my dad's Sony 530d (which likes the DVD+Rs I mentioned above). 4 good discs in a row.

    So. There ya go.

  10. Bravo! I guess Meritline.com needs to take a look of this proven working low cost 2x DVD-R for DRU-500A.

Did the burning time cut by half or it's just like the Meritline 2x DVD-R?

  12. My discs burned at 2x. I wasn't watching any meter or anything, but they finished in around a half hour.

Just bought another cakebox of 10 PRINCO 2x discs in a local store here in Belgium.
These discs have a white glossy top with print on it, saying: PRINCO - DVD-R - DVD Recordable Disc - For Data & Video - General 1x 2x - 4.7 Gb.
Just tested 4 pcs. with RecordNowMAX 4.5 on the DRU500A firmware 1.0d and guess what???
They all burned at 2x !!! Even seconds faster then the CHOICE 2x I used untill now :P

    /me happy now !!
    PRINCO's 2x cost € 1.50 over here

  18. Hi BK

I want to order some 2 x DVD-R's from Bigpockets. Could you confirm which media you ordered as they seem to have 2 lots that could fit your description :-

    Datasafe / Datawrite Classic Gen 3 Branded X2 write 4.7gb DVD-R
    Datasafe Branded Black/Yellow 2 speed 4.7gb DVD-R

I know its probably the first one but just want to make sure I've had my fill of coffee coasters
