Wanting to buy a DVD player for my parents for Xmas. Something cheap but reliable that will play CD-R/W and DVD-R. Any decent ones from Walmart, Kmart or Target? thanks

  2. You can try GoVideo 853 available at Radio Shack. Pretty good,
    plays mp3, vcd, DVD-ROM, DVD+RW, DVD-RW.
Price is around $70 after rebate. If you want to go cheaper try Apex.
    Walmart carrys them.
    I bought a GoVideo one.

If you are looking for something that supports VCD, be carefull of the Apex line as their latest DVD players do not play VCD (Including the latest version of the AD-1500.) WalMart online (I'm not sure if they would have it at your local store) has a Magnavox MDV450SL for $88.81 at:

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1972356&cat=95987&type=19&dept=0...106168%3A95987

these play just about anything; VCD, SVCD, XVCD (all of Kwag's XVCD templates, although for the K3 you need to change the resolution to 544 X 480), MP3 and JPEG's (just copy to CD and it will display them) on CD-R/CD-RW and DVD-R/DVD-RW formats. It's on the compatibility list (here) at:

For $89 this is a great player. I'm thinking about getting a second one.
