  1. I'm having trouble ripping Spider-man and keeping only the English subtitles. Here's what I'm doing:

I'm ripping the main movie files using DVD Decryptor to a folder. Then, I'm using IfoEdit to strip out everything but the 6ch audio and English subs. Once the process is complete, I close IfoEdit, load up the new Ifo, get the sectors and I'm off to testing the new files.

So I watch the newly made movie with subtitles off.. and it works perfectly except for everywhere the awful spidersense feature on the original DVD decides to kick in. (Ex: near the start of CH15 and CH19). Basically, the damn spidersense kicks in and it tries to play the original subtitle #1 (spidersense pictures), can't find it, and because of that, it'll pull up the English subtitle... As far as I've seen, watching the movie with subtitles on doesn't give this problem.

I've also tried using IfoEdit to strip and keep both the original subtitle stream 1&2. This hasn't worked for me either. I was actually expecting it to pull up the spidersense thing correctly, but it didn't even do that... when I played to the problem places (with subtitles off), the damn spidersense didn't kick in, but rather, I had an annoying red square show up in the upper left corner of the video.

So... anyone have any idea how I can fix all of this? I've been playing around in IfoEdit and messing with things, but havn't had any luck. I truly hate the person that authored this disc with the spidersense feature as it's annoying and needs to be turned off manually everytime you put the real disc in.. hence all my trouble to rip the DVD and make my own movie+sound+sub only copy. Thanks for reading this long thing.., and thanks in advance for any replies that may show up =)

Not sure if you are but...

My guess would be your using the original IFO files, just modified to allow only the one audio/sub stream?

If this is the case they must have it linked when the chapter is about to start, and you will need to create new IFOs that do not have this link in them.

I have not seen the original Spiderman DVD myself but this sounds like what is happening...

  3. In IFOEdit when you are stripping, DO NOT check the box

    4 Subpicture 5: English (2-bit rle)(ID: 0x24)

Thats the one with the popups

  4. Evil Twin: I do not have the 0x24 (SubPicture 5) subtitle box checked. SubPicture 5 is actually the quick facts popup stuff (not the spidersense), which isn't something that I'm having a problem with at all.

MrRatt: I havn't tried to create new IFO files from scratch yet. Pretty foolish of me not to.. but I guess I wanted to see if I could do it the hard way and hack at it or something =) I'll go try that right now...

  5. I'm still having problems after having IfoEdit make a new IFOs. I told it to Create IFOs off of the stripped set of vobs that I made (audio+vid+english sub only) but I'm still getting problems during playback =(

  6. Okay I have found a way to get around all my problems. It's a rather brute force method, literally, but does work. I ended up stripping everything but the English and spidersense (yes I did end up keeping it) subs. In the new IFO file, however, what I did was redirect and change the hex value under sub1 (the spidersense) to 83030300 so that it would try to read an invalid and nonexistant subpicture stream... this way, when the video tries to access spidersense/sub1, it pulls up nothing at all, and if I do decide to turn on the English subs, all I have to do is remember to use subtitle #2 instead of the #1 which basically is a null... WinDVD wasn't complaining about anything when I tested it, and hopefully neither will my player hooked up to the tv - so it's off to the DVD+RW for now..
