  1. I am trying to output (copy/transfer/record/...) an AVI file to Sony 520 - a Digital8. The AVI file was originally captured with the same 1394 card. I use Compusa's 1394 (Adeptec) with Ulead VStudio 5 DV ed.

The problem is when I click the record button, both preview and camcorder start OK, but the LCD flurs randomly with a gray frame. I also hear jitter sound in the cam. After I replay, I can easily sense the lost frames.

My thinking is that the cam can't keep up with 1394 which outputs too fast. How can I slow 1394 or make it waiting or make it sync with the cam?

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

    vcd169,

I'm not sure I understand you correctly. But, I think you are trying to
record BACK out and into your Camcorder's tape??

If so, you are looking for an DV app that also sends back out to a CAM.
If memory serves me correctly, you need to:
    * get a copy of DVIO.EXE (or use software sweet w/ your kit)
    * be sure you have a DV codec installed
    * when transering AVI back out to CAM, the AVI NEEDS TO BE in DV format,
.. that's why you are having problems, hence the need for a DV codec,
.. not huffy or whatever. It must be in DV format. That's why I say you
.. need to have a DV codec installed, ie MainConcepts or Canopus are some.
.. I may be wrong about this, but I don't think so.

DVIO.EXE has a Send Video to Camera button that you press. This
will send that DV avi file(s) to your DV cam. Make sure thta you have
your cam in VCR mode (or record mode, i think)

  3. Thank you for response, vhelp. I believe it is a shortcome for Ulead Vstudio. Its "output DV AVI to DV cam" feature is not working.

After seeing your message, I tried MGI VWave 4, thining it may have working codec and it does. It works fine with Sony 520. I tested with a 40 sec snippet of avi I captured off the same cam - which is surely in DV format.

I will try dvio.exe, as well as the codecs you mentioned. I hear 1394 does not make difference, codec does.

I guess I am OK for the moment. Thanks again.
