  2. Yes you can, VCD format is part of the DVD standard.

    PAL
    Video:
    up to 9.8 Mbit/sec MPEG-2 or MPEG-1
    720 x 576 pixels
    352 x 288 pixels (VCD Standard) <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    352 x 576 pixels (CVD Standard)
    25 frames/second
    Audio:
    Up to 8 audio tracks containing Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM(uncompressed audio), MPEG-1 Layer2 one track must either have MPEG-1 or DD or PCM Audio.

    NTSC
    Video:
    up to 9,8 Mbit/sec MPEG-2 or MPEG-1
    720 x 480 pixels
    352 x 240 pixels (VCD Standard) <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    352 x 480 pixels (CVD Standard)
    29,97 frames/second
    Audio:
    Up to 8 audio tracks containing Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM(uncompressed audio), MPEG-1 Layer2 but one track must either have DD or PCM Audio.

    You must author it with a DVD authoring program like DVD Worksop or MyDVD.

    However, VCD compatible MPEG-1 files are largely compatible with DVD so you can use it as the source for a DVD.

    Yes you can! You can burn .mpg movies or .jpg slide shows with Nero direct to VCD

    mphearn: yes you can burn directly to vcd on cdr/w but not on DVD+R/W as wizzy waaaaants.

    To burn vcd mpeg1 files as a dvd you should convert the audio to 48 khz and then you should be able to author and burn as standard dvd.
