  1. I am trying to convert some of my mpeg files to DivX. I am doing it like the tutorial on this site. The problem is that when I hit "Save AVI" there is no progress. "Current audio sample" increases to 4096 but then nothing happens (except the elapsed time still counting). I have tried both Virtualdub 1.3c and 1.4d but the same problem occurs. I have also tried several different mpeg files.

Can some1 give me a hint about what I should do?

I'm pretty sure this problem is due to using the DivX audio codec - I had the same problem. Try switching the to MP3 codec - that should work. Does anyone know why it does this or how to bypass it?

Agreed. Div-x audio, much like div-x sucks. When I do div-x audio it tells me it's take something like 59 hours and then I switch to mp3 and it does the job in 40 minutes.

  4. Thanks that helped but now I ran into another problem. The divx avi does not play as smooth as the mpeg i converted from did. The picture (not the audio) stops for a very short time (less than 1/10 of a second). This happends regularly about every second. What can the problem be? I used the low-motion divx codec to convert.

  5. How do I do the opposite? .avi files to .mpg - I'm downloading an avi file from WinMX and I want to convert it to mpg so that i can put it onto a VCD.
