I have just purchased a Hauppauge WinTV Nova-t digital terrestrial TV card and can now capture raw MPEG2 footage direct off air. The picture quality is absolutely superb (akin to DVD's viewed on your PC) and as the bitrate tops out at around 5-6mbps some DVD players can play this directly off a CD-R disc (and hopefully all from a DVDR disc).
I plan to capture programmes like this and edit them to fit onto 2 or 3 CD-R's for playback on my DVD player. However, I do need an MPEG2 editor that is basically frame accurate. TMPGenc is good, but is only accurate to about a second or so, Womble don't have an MPEG2 demo (so don't know if it would work for me or not - remember that I am not editing SVCD streams but raw programme streams at much higher variable bitrates).
I know of M2-Edit Pro, but have not heard good comments about it. Are there any other ACCURATE editing tools THAT WILL EDIT RAW MPEG2 STEAMS DIRECTLY? I do not want to re-encode anything. I just want to simply (and accurately) top & tail and cut out commercials from an MPEG2 file.
