    I'm having trouble playing this certain file. All I get is sound not picture . When I checked what codec it used it said DIV4 so then I downloaded divx 3.11 alpha but it still didn't work.Which divx codec should I use to play this file?

    you could always try Div4 (divx 4.0 IIRC)

    You should download something like Gspot (link available in the Tools section of this site) that will identify the AVIs you are trying to play. This will tell you for sure what codec was used.
