  1. Hi,

my Pinnacle-v8 can produce an MPEG-2 file for burning a DVD.
Like any commercial DVD, I would like to have a starting overview screen with 'chapters' that point to parts of the video.
Anyone out there who knows if (and if so, how) I can create chapters for the MPEG-2 file that is produced with Pinnacle-v8 ?
If not possible with Pinnacle, please indicate me which software I would need.

    Thanks

  2. I have tried a bunch of programs, and find Pinnacle 8 to be the EASIEST. I have not tried to edit captured MPEG files, I capture DV from my camcorder, then edit.

    Here's what I do:

    1. Capture DV via Firewire (using "scene detection" which separates each scene or start/stop of the source video into separate clips).

    2. Click "Edit" - you will see a thumbnail for each scene.

    3. Drag the scenes you want to use for the movie to the timeline.

    4. Within the "edit" menu, click the "Show Transitions" button on the left, drag the transitions you like, and drop in between the scenes on the timeline.

    5. Also within the "edit" menu, click on the "Show Menus" button on left, and select the menu you like. Drag to the beginning of the timeline. You can edit the menu (change the title, font, etc, and select whether you want to create a chapter for each clip in your timeline, as well as whether you want to create moving video for each chapter in your menu (rather than a thumbnail).

I am in the middle of capturing now, so I can't verify exactly what I have said, but I think it is pretty accurate based on memory. I haven't used the capture direct to MPEG because you will get better resultd editing the DV file then encoding.

Hope this helps. If not let me know.

  3. That seems to work. I can create the menu and select the correspondence between 'chapters' and the scene to which it points.

    Thanks

PS: whould you mind taking a look to my other post a few topics earliers, titled "how create multi-language subtitles for DVD with Pinnacle" ? Maybe you can guide me on that one too.
