friend has this DV camcorder and we want to capture off it.
it appears to have a firewire port (they call it DV port).
So if i grab a 1394 cable (I have a port on the pc) can i capture
straight from it? or do i need anything else? (I've got adobe, vegas
vid, etc).

you're pretty much all set.
Keep in mind that DV AVIs are huge, you'll need about 13GB for 1hr of video. Unless you have an NTFS partition, check if your software has the capability to do seamless captures.
