Hi, my friend hooked me up with some VCDs, but when I tried copying them using Nero, for awhile it was alright, occasionally getting errors but after awhile I started to receive error after error, and soon it would say that the Read CD failed. The errors at first were something like Unrecoverable Data at "blah blah time". Soon I started getting errors that read "Uncorrectable EDC/ECC error at block 0: 8: 46 (minec:frm). And if I ignore it, it goes on and on like this at different times. Then it says Read CD Failed. Thats about it pretty much. Can someone please help me? I used EZ CD Creator as a desperate attempt, but it failed (obviously). I'm using a iomega ZipCD Burner 12x16x32. Please Help.

Were you using the CD-Copy mode in Nero? If so, go to the copy options tab and make sure "On the fly" is unchecked. That's what allowed ne to start copying VCD's.
-
Thanks, but I unchecked On the Fly. I was using CD-Copy. Can't seem to figure out how to copy the VCDs.....
-
Your VCDs might be copy protected, ask your friend if that is the case. Or, it could be a scratched/damaged CD.
-
Yeah, I think they're copy protected.... he doesn't know, he got it from this other guy. Either that or he's being a bastard and not telling me... wouldn't put it past him. The CDs are in good condition, and not a scratch on them. Is there a VCD ripping or copying program besides Nero or EZ CD Creator? I tried VCDEasy, but didnt' know how to use it in this case. Thanks for the help, much appreciation.

You can copy the *.dat file that is in the MPEGAV folder to your hard drive and convert it back to Mpeg using VCDGear ( http://www.vcdgear.com/ ). Then just burn it to VCD with Nero.
-
OMG! I forgot about that! Or maybe I did, but I didn't think it would work..... Oh well, right now it sounds like the best idea yet! I'll try it out, and see how it goes. Thanks, I'll be back after it's done!
-
Once you have taken the dat from the mpgav file you only need to start nero opt for vcd then drag and drop the dat back to there ! Thats all ive ever done when i have had probs with vcd never had to convert to mpg again and nero has always accepted the dat file this way !
KILL A MAN BE A MURDERER, KILL A THOUSAND BE A CONQUEROR, KILL EVERYONE BE A GOD ! -
Heh, you wouldn't believe it, but when I try to copy the DAT files (Theres three), it wouldn't copy! I get this error message: Cannot copy AVSEQ01: The system cannot read from the specified device. Kinda weird for me, i dragged and dropped, but it goes for awhile, and then stops and displays this error message. I tried copying the file through DOS, it copies, but only about 14 mb or it copies and then it stops. The original is about 217 mb. Damn, I guess I'll try the computers at school and see how that goes. Thanks for the help, keep them coming, I sure can use it right now! [/img]

finalvictim,
Yes, Nero does accept *.dat files but it still has to demux and remux the file before burning it as VCD (haven't you noticed that the file Nero is burning is usually smaller than initial *.dat file?) which Nero is crap at. Much better results (exactly the same quality as initial *.dat file) are achieved by using VCDGear. -
I have had some of the problems you mention.
Have you tried using Isobuster to copy the dat file from the mpegav folder on the disk.
dlb. -
you can try to convert the *dat file to mpeg,
use "vcd gear" to do it.
sometimes it works.
you just load the *dat file, select "dat >mpeg"
and select where you want it to be saved.HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE -
Have you tried ripping the vcd with VCDEasy? If you can do that you will be able to just reburn the mpg file. It usually works for me when I have problematic VCD's and SVCD's.
-
Thanks everyone, No luck so far. However can you use VCDGear to convert the file without copying it on your HD? About ISOBuster... geez I didn't use that since my DC ripping/burning days. I'll have to find it again... About VCDEasy, how do you rip the DAT files? I haven't figured out how to use this program yet.... Keep the info coming, it's really helpful. Thanks!

Launch MS DOS Command Prompt. Type 'copy [Source Drive:\MPEGAV\AVSEQ01.dat] [Destination Harddrisk Drive:\{Filename}]' or any DOS command you are familiar with.
If you are able to copy the .dat file to your HDD, you are ready for the party! -
Thanks, but I tried using DOS earlier, it should be in one of my previous posts. I just found out how to rip using VCDEasy, but it seems that "No drivers were found" for my CD Drive. Any clue what to do?
-
For VCDEasy you need to go into the tools menu and in the (S)vcd Build/Rip you will see VCDxRip. Just select from CD Reader and select a name for the XML file. You probably won't need it but you have to use it for the program to rip. You can also select do not rip the segment and do not rip other files if all you want is the mpg. The file will be created wherever you put the XML file. It will creat a bin file and then it will extract the mpg from the bin. It will most likely have the name avseq01.mpg. If this does not work I would think the cd is bad. Although if you know for sure it is good maybe CloneCD would work. Good luck.

In the settings go to CDRDAO and select you CD Drive in the pull down menu. Then check the force driver box. Then try using the Generic-mmc driver. That is what works for my Plextor.
-
Thanks, but I tried all the drivers, but none of them seemed to work. Perhaps I need to update or something? Any clue anyone? This is harder than I thought, I still have about 12 VCDs left to copy, but none of them are working. Here is a list of methods I've tried so far:
1) Nero : CD-Copy Mode
2) Copy DAT files and Paste on HD
3) Copy DAT files and Paste on HD using DOS
4) Ripping VCD using VCDEasy
I still have to try the IsoBuster method, I'll try that ASAP. Thanks everyone, keep it coming. -
Try it at a slower writing speed or on a different PC

i have a program called Blindread/blinewrite
it makes a exact 1:1 copy of any cd(so i have read)
cd>>>bin/cue with blindread
bin/cue>>>cd with blindwrite
i found out about it when i installed daemon tools. sorry but i cant remember the link... do a search 4 it. they both come together as a package
it is easy to use......give it a goDeath, is only the begining -- Imhotep -
Thanks, I'll try to find the program right now. So it's called Blindwrite eh? Okay, it might take awhile to find, but I think I can find it. Thanks, also the Isobuster successfully ripped 2 of 3 DAT files from one of the VCDs, though their file sizes are about 2 MB less than the originals. Still works though. On the 3rd one however, the program freezes and I have to shut it down. I wonder why.......
-
http://www.blindwrite.com/
u can get a trial version......but it is good program and i will buy it soon
hope it helpsDeath, is only the begining -- Imhotep -
Wow, thats amazing! I downloaded it awhile ago, and at the moment I've ripped and burned 9 of my VCDs!
Shame it's a trial version though, I wonder if I can find a registration code on the internet..... Anyway, this is one heck of a program, and it copies the VCD even though there are Ecc/Ecd or something errors on the VCD when copying it! The highest amount of errors I had was 6029 errors on one VCD! Yet it still burned perfectly, and worked just like the original! This prog is one of the best I've seen! Thanks Everyone, and Special Thanks to esmerelda1983 for the recommendation, this is one hell of a program!
-
There is also this proggie that is called CloneCD, same function/effectiveness with Blindwrite/read but simpler interface. Maybe those VCDs were protected by SafeDisk 2.x. In my area, game CDs are the only copy protected. I use both of these proggies. Never failed so far
-
Yeah, CloneCD is a great prog, used it many, many times. However I switched burners awhile ago, and CloneCD didn't seem to support it, so I had to ditch CloneCD in search of another prog. I mainly used CloneCD for my DC games and some computer games and such. Brings back memories of the good ol' days.
