Hi all , I ripped Spiderman DVD with Smart Ripper 2.41 then used TMPGEnc 2.58 to encode to VCD but the encoded spiderman.mpg's audio is out of sync. I mean there is a delay in the audio when I play the movie with WinDVD or PowerDVD.

Is there a way I can fix the audio delay problem ?

    Thanks

  2. hi...just ripped that movie myself and there wasn't an audio problem

if the audio delay is constant throughout the entire movie, you can use the audio skew feature in the source range filter under tmpgenc's advanced menu..

audio skew allows you to start the audio earlier or later in milliseconds (ms)

also, i'm assuming you forced film in dvd2avi...and then encoded in tmpgenc as 23.976 fps + 3:2 pulldown

well..you should force film in dvd2avi as spiderman is FILM. then encode in tmpgenc as 23.976 fps + 3:2 pulldown...

Did you let DVD2AVI make an .ac3 audio file. If you did then change to decode as a .wav file. Tmpeg will not synch .ac3 audio properly.

  6. I would recommmend that you demux the audio to an extra file when you rip. Let DVD2AVI go with force film but no audio and then ac3-->>wav with BeSweet because you can set an audio delay with it. Just make that number whatever SmartRipper tells you the delay is. BTW though....I don't use BeSweet for mp2 conversion....wasn't real happy with the results from it.

Thanks for all of you who replied.

I found out what happen. After I ripped Spiderman DVD for the first time, I used MyFlix XE to cut the whole movie in two even piece and thats when thing went wrong with the audio.

So I re-ripped the whole movie again and was careful this time and I burn the VCDs with no audio sync problem.

It took so long to encode the 2 hour movie to VCD (3 hours 21 minutes encoding time!)

  8. 3.5 hours for a movie isn't THAT bad. Takes me like 8-10 before I'm edited, encoded and ready to burn!!

8-10 hrs is way too long. Are you using a Pentium 3 computer ?

It also depends on what movie you are encoding...for an example, I ripped Pearl harbour which is a 3 hour movie but it took just 3 hours to encode. Other movies took me 1.5 hours to encode.

Next time I will try to hook up my Apex DVD player to the video in of the TV wonder card to capture the movie and see how the quality is.

  10. Overclocked Celeron. It's running at 850mHz right now I believe. Maybe it's just a difference in our encoding. When I say 8-10 hours mean total.....from rip to burn. I should have been more clear about that

    However.......
To encode 50 minutes of video @352x480 with a single pass VBR in CCE w/ quality to 100 and the image moved down to 1 or 2- that takes me about 2.5 hour encoding only. Honestly, I don't care too much about the time because on my TV these are indistinguishable from the DVD until I change the disk

Life would be so much easier if we could do a DVD2DVD copy.

Will there ever be a DVD burner out in the market that allows a user to do a 1:1 DVD copy ?

I doubt it b/c of 2 things. 1) current dvd size limitations (4.7gb) and 2) a program to copy would have to unencrypt the dvd which is considered illegal in most places (which is a bunch of crap)

you're saying VCD is indistinguishable from the original DVD?

  14. no, not VCD but sometimes SVCD.....only on my 27" TV though. Lower resolution ya know. On my PC you can see a few artifacts in the dark areas. It really depends on how long the movie is and if I can maintain an average bitrate over 2200mbs. As you know....90-100 mins is about perfect for 2 discs

Could you describe the problem in a little more detail ?

Is it because your DVD rom is say for an example...region 2 and you want to watch spiderman which is region 1 and hence the dvd rom won't play the disc ? If so try :

    DVD Region-Free

    http://www.dvdidle.com/

    Region-Free for RPC2 DVD drive
    Region-Free for RCE DVDs
Region-Free for DVD player software( PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc. )
    Macrovision-Free
    Operation-Free
    Direct-Play main title

  18. Nothing to do with reagons, it just freeses up, will not release, I've noticed else where that others are having a problem with this disc as well, it seems to work in some players ( high end ) but not in others. Will try the sight you left.

    Thanks
