Anyone tried this card. I'm building a system and was planning to use a GeForce2 Pro but this card's 3D performance is almost as good plus it comes with real time MPEG2 encoding. I'd lose a little 3D performance but it beats the crap out of a Radeon and I don't need to buy an extra card just for capture. Sounds too good to be true. ANY input would be appreciated.

In my research I've come across the ASUS AGP-V7700 Deluxe. It's a GeForce2 GTS card with VIVO. Anybody got info on the capure qualities of this one? I've got to get a system built soon and would like to use a display and capture combination card with an nVidia GPU. Are there any other combo cards out there? I've got dozens of VHS tapes of movies off PPV and home videos I'd like to put on VCD using good quality MPEG 1 hardware encoding. Both of these cards claim to do that as well as MPEG2 encoding. But y'all know what is claimed and what is fact are two different things.

Depends on the OS you want to use...
If you're thinking about Windows2000, forget about ASUS. Their drivers are terrible in Windows2000, e.g. capturing is mission impossible! Windows98SE is fine though...

I have the gainward. So far I havenīt been albe to capture good avi files (losing frames in Virtualdub) and mpeg2 recording isnīt too good quality and dosenīt seem to work that well (sometimes invalid capture files, sound drops out if long recording and also the capture software is all fucked up). Dosenīt have any hardware compresson so you have to have a powerfull PC to gét any capturing done with this card. Buy a stand alone capture card with hardware compresson.

Having just bought a Gainward 3.5ns 400 MX VIVO I can capture video ok, no dropped frames mpeg2, the quality is ok, but you have to tweak the WDM driver. (SPEC AMD 750, 256mb, UW SCSI drives).
I cannot save any changes to the WDM however, and have to reset it before each capture (PAL) as NTSC is default.
Can you use this card with Adobe Premier 5.1 ? or mpeg2 files. If so how ?

Hi Paulp. What software to you use to capture mpegs? How do you tweak the wdm???

the standard Ulead.
CLick on the cog thing and select video properties. You need to enter every entry there such as pin, crossbar, etc and make sure it's set to what you need. I suspect if you are NTSC your fine. In mpeg settings to get reasonable quality you need a bit rate of 6000 and quality of 6 or 7.
