  1. Hi all (again).

The only reason I'm restating my question is because my last post got shut down due to bickering. I did get some helpful information but I would like more, as I think I'm close.

I'm just trying to capture analog video from my camcorder at 352x480. It seems so simple.

Whatever I try doesn't seem to work. I have avertv studio and it won't let me select 352x480. Is there a way around this?

I've tried Virtuadub but since I have win98se I can't get it to work due to the drives issue.

I've tried virtual VCR but that doesn't work either due to some sort of filter error.

    Or

Is there some software out there that I can PURCHASE that will work and allow me a full range of capturing, conversion, etc?

    Thanks all.

To actually pay for for software that can capture at those ranges and formats, look into Ulead Video Studio 6. There is a demo available.

If you cannot get VDub or VirtualVCR to work I doubt any 3rd part software will work correctly with your drivers.

I would try the http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ driver if the card id a bt8x8 chipset.

  4. My drivers are whatever came with win98se and avertv.

I have done nothing special on this computer as it is only for video processing.

If what you say is true then how can ANYONE with win98se run any of these programs?

I can capture at higher resolution with my avertv card but it is just a little choppy and I have graphics issues....that's why I've knocked it down to 352 x 480....especially since I'm just doing VCD anyway.

Well, that's kind of like saying the Cinncinnati Bengals beat the Houston texans last week and the Houston Texans beat the Dallas Cowboys a few weeks before that. Logic would say the Bengals would beat the Cowboys. Maybe so, maybe not. if everything worked together like it should, there would be no need for the local computer repair hacks that make $45 an hour either.

My drivers were the problem for me. I would try another one. I use the btwincap driver that someone else mentioned further up....

    Steve,

Here is the review of the Aver card that I posted in the capture card section - it briefly mentions how to set the card up to capture 352x480. If you need detailed instructions, let me know....

I bought the Avermedia Stereo Card last week. My desire is to capture TV, VHS, and 8mm video and convert them to VCD. One of my big concerns in replacing my old card ( ATI AIW128 ) was that I could use V-Dub / TmpGenc to capture and then encode my video. After reading the posts on here it looked like it would work as long as I installed VFW drivers instead of WDM.

After installing the card, I let Windows detect it and then installed the drivers. Sure enough, they were WDM. I went ahead and installed the Aver TV program just to check it out. Everything worked and the tuner is WAAAAY! better than the one on my old card. I decided to try a small test capture in MPEG1 format. I made two quick test captures - not very good quality at all. The biggest capture size allowed was 320x240; that worried me as I like to capture 320x480 and let TmpGenc interlace them for me. Interestingly, the first capture was upside down! I've never seen that before. I didn't try MPEG2, as so far I haven't progressed any farther than making my own VCD's.

This morning I began poking around through old messages here on the forums to see if I could figure out how to install VFW drivers for this card. Basically what I discovered is this. There are already VFW drivers on the Aver install disk, they are in the \drivers\Win98\ directory. However, if you're in the same boat as me you need to uninstall the WDM drivers first. Aver makes this easy. Go to the support section on their website and then the drivers page. There is a program posted there to remove the drivers. Download and run it. I also uninstalled the TV app.

When you reboot, Windows will detect the card again and begin installation. When it gets to the point where it wants to search for a driver, tell it no and then browse to the \drivers\Win98\ directory on the Aver disk. The two drivers are "fleetva" and "fleetvv". That might be an incorrect spelling of the driver names, but you'll see them. Pick one and let it install; then the other. When it finished, my system appeared to hang when updating the registry. I suspect it had something to do with looking for something that I hadn't installed in the script. Anyway, I gave it a couple of minutes and then rebooted. Everything came up normally. I then reinstalled the Aver TV program and it worked just fine.

I installed Huffy, V-Dub, and TmpGenc and tried a capture. Worked like a charm! 320x480 - no problem; nice quality capture, clipped the ends off of it, set up a frameserver to TmpGenc and encoded it. Worked great. The only issue I have is that I can't seem to capture in overlay mode, it demands preview. Other than that, my first impression is - THIS CARD ROCKS!!!

BTW - So far I really like the TV program. I've seen other comments that weren't so positive, but compared to the TV software include with my old AIW cards, it's a big improvement.

After I've had more time to work with and learn about this card I'll post an update.

If you're refering to the filter installation and regestering problem, this is the way to go:

try doing a search for the regsvr32.exe file on your system (usually in c:\windows\system) then use the full path to launch the regsvr32.exe file

    i.e. c:\windows\system\regsvr32.exe FlowMeter.ax

do this in all the filters.

alternatively, insert the full path to the regsrv32.exe file into the install.bat file and then run it again.

You can find this procedure in the VirtualVCR homepage
