  1. What is best software to capture SVHS with Canopus ADVC100, and how do I go about getting the best quality capture?
Home movies are to be burned to DVD, so I want everything to come out best quality.

Please help someone, as I am a novice with capture and no-one replied to my last request for help.

The nice thing about the ADVC-100 is that there really aren't any settings to fool around with when capturing from an analog source. The ADVC-100 captures in Full DV mode. The best settings are the default for the box. Some people use Pinnacle Studio, Scenalyzer etc. If you just want to capture the audio/video directly from the box then I would use DVIO:

    http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm

This will capture at 720x480 in Full DV mode with locked stereo audio at 48KHz.

I would use virtualdub to edit the stream. You will also need the DV codec installed: http://www.mainconcept.com/archive/mcdv204.exe

All of this software is freeware (except the codec but the decoder has no limitations.)

    Hopefully this helps!

  3. The ADVC fools the computer in thinking a DV camera has been attached, because it takes any analog/digital signal and feeds a Digital Video signal just like your DV-Camera. In fact any capturing program will work. The software will think you have a DV camera hooked and will give you the buttons to rewind the tape etc. but they won't work because the ADVC100 has no tape. Whatever software you use just hit record/maybe pause/stop that is it.

    To capture:
    I've used Premiere (expensive)
    VegasVideo3 (middle price)
    iuVCR (cheap)
    PowerDirector2 (low price)
    MS MovieMaker (bundled w/ WinXP)

I have not seen a program that claims to be for video capture but does not work with the Canopus ADVC. They all do. That is the beauty of the ADVC no hardware conflicts, flexible, compatible, reasonably priced.
