I posted a while back about trying to play back through my TV-out jack to a VHS deck. The aspect ratio of my capture and playback didn't quite match, so there was a black section at the top and bottom of the screen when the tape was viewed.
Hardware:
Athlon 1.4 t-bird, 512mb ddr ram, radeon 64 ddr vivo
Captured with virtualdub:
AVI capture, 640x480, picvideo mjpeg compressor quality=20, 2:1 linear reduction, sharpen filter setting 20.
I'm told this is overkill since VHS tape can't take advantage of the resolution. I tried 352x480 but it looked blocky, plus I edit with MediaStudio and the CG looked especially blocky.
To record to tape, I set my monitor to 800x600, play the avi through Windows Media Player at full-screen, record to VHS through the composite out, but still get black areas at the top and bottom.
Any tips on how to capture hi-8 source so the aspect ratio fills the full screen on playback to tape?
