I was thinking that since everyone has trouble with the Dazzle disappearing from the firewire bus, someone could dump the firmware of the device, find and fix the bug.

or is the device's rom not flashable?

It is a write once device. And the firmware has little to do with the firewire on this device. Yes, I've looked into it a little. Though if you really want to reprogram the sucker, you could then be able to change the video levels and audio levels, etc. If you really want to change the thing, find a philips SAA7115 video chip, and replace the older SAA7114 that is on your bridge now. If you are really into this, the microcontroller that sets up this device uses 8051 standard coding, but I forget who makes it. And I think the rom is in a socket. And the rom has a flashable replacement for cheap.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
