  1. Ok I've never come across this
I have a avi file that the audio is out of sync with the video.

I looked at the guide on this site and it says to first convert to mpeg then use tmpegnc and goldwave. well, I did that and no luck. I've tried adjusting the time setting and it's just not working.

    So the question is:
can I fix the sync problem of the original avi file with out converting to mpeg first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

There may be a simpler way, but one way I've done this in the past is to load the AVI in Sonic Foundry VideoFactory or its big brother Vegas Video, ungroup the video track from the audio track, and stretch the audio (longer or shorter) until they sync.

    Hope this helps!

If you know the history of the avi it always helps. Some files have been converted more than once already.

If it's just a case of the audio lagging or going ahead by a fixed time for the whole movie then you could use virtualdub to extract the wav file. Also save the video separately. Then feed the 2 files to tmpgenc and encode them to mpeg1.

Otherwise if you just want you can demultiplex and remultiplex the mpeg video and audio using the tmpgenc mpeg tools.

Goldwave etc... is used when you need to stretch the audio to match the video track but often that is not the problem and is not needed.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

I did that. That is what I normally do to make a mpeg anyways

That didn't work either but I need to fix the avi I think because the audio is out of sync even in that

    .

That is too time consuming I've already tried 3 times and still no luck

Thank you for the post. I appreciate it.

    Anyone else have any ideas.
here is something weird it is a pal avi file but when loaded into tmpegnc and you do source range up in the top left it says 30 fps.

any more help would be appreciated

  5. Is it out of sync from the beginning or does it first appear later in the movie.
I have had the same problem and it was because there was some bad frames at about 60 minutes in the movie. I did the bad frames scanning in virtualdub but it didnt find it. So I got the wave from the movie, put som silence by the bad frames part, put the wave back in the movie and that was that.
