  1. Is their a solution to trying to convert an AVI to MPEG2 when the AVI uses different frame rates? Ive 2 movie files, 1 is 12.5fps and the other is 20, both dont seem to work right.

  2. Try TMPGEnc, should encode as you wish, or FlaskMPEG and BBMpeg for MPEG2

  3. I use TMPGE and it doesn't seem to matter what the original avi framerate is, whether i encode to 23 with 3:2 playback or 29 it works. The only problem i found was with audio being out of sync. But that happened even if i was encoding 29.97 avi to 29.97 mpeg2. As i couldn't find any rhyme or reason to when the audio was gonna be out of sync, i load up all my avi in virualdub, save the sound to wav and the video to uncompressed avi. Then I just load up the video and wav in TMPGE and tell it what i want my end result encode to be.

I too would like to know whats really going on. If there is any reason to encode at a factor of the original (ie 15 fps avi to 29.97 mpeg).
If anyone can shed some light i'd appreciate it.

  4. I figured out the problem I was having was because I didnt have the proper codecs installed. So the file would play fine in Media Player but in TMPGEn would just show a black screen. Its working OK now. The only problem I run into now is it crashes at 4 gigs.
