There are probably many commercial apps that do this.

I use Videowave 5 to add lead-in titles superimposed over the film.
You can size them, place them anywhere and keep them in view for a few frames or the whole movie.

For avi files, there is a logo filter available for Virtualdub which allows you to add a transparent logo like the TV stations. You can make your own logo with your name as a bitmap. There are options for placement and also duration. I haven't used it but have read the help file and it seems to be one way to do what you want.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

That's not really hard.... you have to use these tools: VirtualDub, VobSub and Alpha.... assume that you know other details, I'm going too much details in here.... VirtualDub uses for edit your video... (reveived format .avi, .mpeg1(not .mpeg2).... then go to Filter->Add->Load then, go to the VobSub's directory and load the file name: Vobsub or Text(something) there is only two files that contain the extension associated with the extension the VirtualDub needed..... After you load it, scroll down and choose the file you just did.... then it pop up the window and ak you where is your subtitle (subtitle you did in Alpha).... After that, you play and see the subtitle on the video.. now, you save the video and burn into vcd...... goodluck....

Before you do above, you have to go to Alpha and create your subtitle and save as the extension is .ssa, then you could do above...
