  1. I am a little frustrated & would appreciate a little help on this one. I am unable to get the MENU options to function when backing up a copy of Gladiator. Disk 1 plays on the PC but no menus. When I try and play it on the Pioneer 525 the display says TITLES and hangs so I know it is not finding the MENUS.

I have used DVD Decrypter version 3.1.3.0 to extract the movie Gladiator to HD selecting ALL files. Gladiator is a DVD-9 and requires 2 DVD's to put the movie on.

I am sure the problem is with IFOEdit verions .94. I have read all of the GUIDES on this FORUM plus other locations and many e-mails on configurating this software. I have tried combinations of check blocks etc with IFOEdit version .94 but I am unable to get the MENU in Gladiator.

I have successfully backuped my copy of Lethal Weapon 4 stripping the menus, extra audio tracks, subtitles etc. to 1 DVD and Oceans 11 to 2 DVD's with the menu. So I do understand a little about the whole process of copying a DVD. I am using Windoz XP.

Many of the GUIDES do not reflect version .94 of IFOEdit. I would be great for someone to explain each check box when you select the VOB EXTRAS button. Also one e-mail said it is not necessary to correct with VTS SECTORS with version .94.

As I said in a previous post http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=121117 on dvdXcopy, there is no such thing as FREE software as it cost you something. In this case its hour and hours of frustration trying to make a free program work.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me.

  2. i too am having the same problem with ifoedit 0.94 and think there is a problem with this version, when i try to make a dvd with original menu it works fine until i use, get VTS sectors, then it wont work after that and u need to use 'get VTS sectors' or it wont work in a stand alone dvd player. But if i make a dvd with just the movie it works fine i am waiting for a reply from derrow and if i get an explainion i will let u know, just one question though have u got ifoedit to work when u keep the original menu?

YES, I copied Oceans 11 and the menu works.

Glad to hear I am not the only one having this problem!

Thanks for the information. I will try that one next.

Here is some more information on the MENU failure problem with .94.

    1. I open up the original movie VIDEO_TS.IFO in IFOEdit and press DVD PLAY everything is OK.

    2. I open up DISC1 VIDEO_TS.IFO in IFOEdit and press DVD PLAY I get the following error message"DVD WARNING - An illegal navigation command was encountered."

So bottom line, if it doesn't play in IFOEdit then don't go any further.

  7. Im no master at DVD back up but i will say this. I use 0.94 without any problems except one which is unrelated to your problems. I have found that you must rip the entire original contents to disc then play the movie in ifoedit until the movie actually begins playing. Then press exit and make a note of the title's played. All these titles must be on both discs to play it as a backup. Sometimes there are more sections than the menu that play before the movie begins. I have found that an illegal navigation occurs if a title is missing that should be there. Hope this helps and im not teaching my grannie to suck eggs.

  8. I also use .94 with no probs, the previous post sums up what is prob the cause of the gladiator thing. I susp all that is missing is a menu ifo and vobs. In Gladiator the main movie files are :- vts_01_1.vob to vts_01_7.vob. You need to copy manually the following files to each VIDEO_TS disk folder :- vts_02_0.bup , vts_02_0.ifo , vts_02_0.vob , vts_02_1.vob , vts_03_*.vob (all of them) and vts_04_*.vob (all of them) . These MUST be copied to both VIDEO_TS folders. Don't forget to do a "get vts sectors" on the main VIDEO_TS.IFO which will do all the IFO's automatically for you. DO NOT RESAVE AGAIN. Check playback with IFOEDIT's player or whatever you have egower dvd. If all ok burn with your favourite application. Hope this helps in some small way.

  9. Sorry I missed a bit, you need to copy the .bup and .ifo for the vts_03_*.vobs and vts_04_*.vobs as well, don't foget to do both VEDIO_TS folders with "get vts sectors".

You have solved the mystery for me! I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions on what I was doing wrong.

IFOEdit .94 is one GREAT program and I had NO problems using it in XP. I am a newbie at movies and trying to learn. The GUIDES do NOT reflect all of the options/configurations you need to do with IFOEdit .94.

After running IFO and getting my Disc1 & Disc2 directories I would copy over the VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO & VIDEO_TS.VOB files. My problem was I did NOT copy over the VTS_02_0.BUP, VTS_02_0.IFO, VTS_02_0.VOB & VTS_02_1.VOB files for the menus. Then you need to do GET VTS vectors on the VIDEO_TS.IFO as you suggested.

Now being a resourceful fellow and not giving up, I devised my own method of getting around those stinkin' menus that were giving me problems.

I ran IFOEdit on the SOURCE file opening VTS_01_0.IFO and doing VOB EXTRAS with only the CORRECT ORIGINAL IFO FILES and CREATE NEW IFO FILES checked to create 4 new files (VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VTS_01.BUP & VTS_01.IFO) in a temp directory. I then copied these four files into DISC1 & DISC2 directories and the did the GET VTS vectors on both DISC1 & DISC2. This gave me NO MENUS and the movies started Automatically when I inserted either discs into the player. So I don't know if I stumbled upon a new trick or did something stupid and it worked! 8)

Thanks again to everyone for their help.
