  1. hI! just need to know one thing before i buy a dvdwriter for my PC! if i use nero or any other writer app, can i move a divx file over to write then view it in my dvd player! basically what i'm saying is do i have to convert the divx file through the app before writing or can i just write the divx file on a dvd disc then play?? The way i see it is what evers on a DVD disc from video to audio can be played in a dvd player but i could be wrong so please help.

  2. Yes you could, although I don't know why you want to waste a DVDR on a DivX movie.

When burning a VCD/SVCD Nero does the conversion for you when dropping in a non-standard file..
however, why would you select cd-rom if your burning a DVD?
i dont have a DVD writer, but i dont think Nero will do the conversion from AVI to DVD format like it would for VCD

When you say dvd player, are you referring to the one in your computer or a standalone dvd player?

If you concerned with quality dont let Nero encode anything - it will suck.
    get cce or tmpgenc

    cant argue that...
however.. converting a DivX movie to a DVD isnt going to be the best idea (quality wise) anyway

  8. i meant a standalone dvd player! this is the thing guys i didn't really wanna convert the file in any way. all i'm saying is basically a standalone dvd player plays dvd-r's right!! so in that case if i have a divx file on a DVD DISC i would expect it to play it because its on a DVD DISC! also not forgetting DIVX FORMAT IS A MEDIA FILE aswell so thats why i need to know if it works.

That would all depend on the speed of your computer
my 500Mhz AMD (dont laugh ) takes a long time, so i generally just do it before going to bed, when i wake up, its done

DivX is already a compressed format, and as SLBOSS926 stated above, the encoder in Nero sucks. Which i will agree with.
Nero would be the most simple solution, but if you want to squeeze as much quality out as you can, try encoding it with TMPGenc

    open TMPGenc
    drop in the DivX file
    hit the load button
select the VCD template (not sure of the actual file name, not at home now)
    then hit start 8)
