  1. Hi,

I'm using smart ripper 2.34 and the speed I'm getting is
    3 to 4x, but I have a Pentium 4/WIN98 SE, and a Panasonic
16x DVD drive. Is there some option I can change to make it
    faster? Thanks!

  2. Sure, follow these steps...

    1. Get Win2k emediately, and microwave your win98 CD (it makes a nice light show)

    2. Once you have win2k, you should then enable DMA access to your DVD-ROM. Right-click My Computer and choose "Properties". go to the Hardware tab, then press "Device Manager". Determine which IDE channel your DVD-ROM is on, and expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Double click the IDE channel your DVD-ROM is on and go to the Advanced Settings tab. Enable "DMA if available" for your DVD-ROM. (This can be done in win98 in a similar way: find your way to the Device Manager in My Computer Properties and double click your DVD-ROM. Go to the settings tab and check DMA.)

    3. Try changing the settings related to VOB file access. the default is ASPI (1 GB files), try changing it to normal or aspi.

    4. Ripping speed will increase as you near the edge of the disc beacause there is more data passing the laser per second as you move out from the center of the disc.

    5. Did I mention that win98 is a POS and you should only use win2k? Good, I did.

  3. I have an idea, search before you post.

Now go here, to a thread that was already started.
