  1. Are the Mpeg 2 encoders in MMT (mediapipe) and ffmpegX mpeg2enc the same thing. If they are different? Which one is better quality at say producing SVCD mpeg 2 video.

  2. They both use the same mpeg2enc module from the mjpegTools project by Linux Square. If transcoding mpeg to mpeg, they use different mpeg decoders. This does makes a difference.

  3. Ok....

Ross or anyone with the knowledge to answer. Which one has the best Mpeg2 decoder. That is which program produces the best DVD to SVCD rip?

Second Question. Do they have the same decoder for .mov (QT) files? I also want to convert DV to SVCD (I don't have a DVD burner yet so have to put up with what I have) and was wondering what package does this the best. MMT seems to have more settings.

If you want to go from DV to MPEG-2, I find that Apples own codecs actually give the (by far!) best result. Unbelievably crisp and fast - even at low bitrates. You need an altivec g4 though.
