Hi, I'm new to the world of encoding and have been having a few problems. Everytime I try to encode a DivX into MPEG for a VCD, the video keeps lagging on my DVD player, it runs fine on my computer though. I've read many guides and FAQs and bunt many bad VCDs but can't seem to solve the problem.....
I'm trying to encode a DivX (frame rate of 23.970fps) into an MPEG using TMPGEnc, for use on my NTSC DVD/TV. I've got the video size down to fit onto one CD by unlocking the features and changing video bitrate to 884 kb/s.
Could someone please help resolve my lagging video problem and maybe give me a guide on what settings I need to use in TMPGEnc?
Thanks for your time,
Matt

By unlocking the features and changing the bitrate you are, in fact, making a XVCD (non-standard VCD) which isn't supported by many players. To see whether your player supports X(S)VCD search for your player in DVD Players section on your left. If you want to make a fully compatible VCD don't unlock the features and only load the required template (NTSCFilm for 23.976 fps) adjusting only what is available to suit your needs. This way your movie, most likely, will need to be burned onto 2 (for movies over 160 min you'll need 3) CDR/RWs since standard VCD allows 80 minutes per 80 min (700 MB) media but at least it is much more likely to work on your DVD player properly.

Thanks for your advice.
I tried using the NTSCFilm template and it worked great, I only had 5 short pauses in video/sound throughout the entire movie. I'm guessing that they were due to either my computer running out of memory/processor or a problem with the encoder.
Thanks again,
Matt
