  1. Is there a way of getting a good quality VCD with 2.O compliance? I've captured a high quality clip with Dazzle (looks Great) then I produce the clip with Mpeg-1 and Use Nero Burn to format in VCD. The quality of the burned VCD is horrible , very pixelized. I've tried using the highest quality capture but it seems that the template for Nero burn's VCD 2.O compliant format compresses the file too much. If I play around with the Mpeg bit rate setting Nero tells me it's not VCD 2.0 compliant....
    Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

  2. A Standard-Compliant VCD *has* to be at the 1150 bitrate. There isn't much flexibility in the format, which makes it frustrating if you're looking for high quality.

If your player can handle it, try upgrading to the SVCD format, where you can use much higher bitrates and have more flexibility as far as keeping the quality up as high as possible. This can be a hassle though because SVCD isn't always supported, whereas VCD usually is ;P

There's always miniDVD if you're looking for some real high quality, but that's usually out the the question (most players won't play them, and you'll need multiple discs for large files).

Best Method of producing Quality VCDs with Dazzle is to create a custom template with Video Bitrate of 2900 or Higher.

Once created, use TMPGENC and its VideoCD template to encode it.

On my machine (PII 400MMX and 394MB RAM)it takes about 4 Hours to encode a VCD compliant File, but the result is worth it.

I used to use Dazzles built in VCD template but the result was horrible.

Play around with TMPGENCs settings especially the soften noise filter and Motion search precision option.

    Then it'd become a non-standard VCD.

  5. Yes but many DVD players can play a non standard VCD and all you have to do in Nero is turn off the standard complaince option....this has been covered many times....I always create my VCDs with a bitrate of about 1500 for video, & 192 for audio....its a sappy chick flick for my wife, then I go even higher on my video....my panasonic DVD player can play VCDs with a video birate of 3000....the only problem there is fitting a movie on 2 disks....I refuse to use more than 2 disks, quality or not.....other than that, I suggest playing with your settings in TMPG until you find what you like..if you wish, I will send you one of my templates..

Yep, they're right above. I have the Dazzle DVC 1 USB (can only cap to Mpeg 1). I cap all clips at 3000 x 256 then re-encode to straight VCD in TMPG. You get no loss at all. So cap as high and as best as your machine will handle, then re-encode in TMPG (not in Nero) then burn it in Nero.
