  1. I want to play a widescreen DVD on my computer and I would like to make it fullscreen without ripping it. I know it's possible because I did it on powerDVD with a VCD. I just removes the side borders. But with my DVDs the option is grayed out.

  2. Do you mean play it fullscreen without the top and bottom black borders? Because then it will appear stretched, giving the 'egghead' effect. If you just want to make the DVD fill the screen then I'm sure there's a full screen option when you right click on the active movie window.

I mean that I want it fullscreen like on a VHS tape. (the side borders are removed, no black borders) Of course I can make it fill the screen, but it's still widescreen.

  4. I see what you mean. I think you'd probably have to re-encode the DVD for that to work, but there must be some player that will do what you ask. I'll try PowerDVD and WinDVD on my home PC to see if it's possible.

Maybe someone else knows of a DVD software player that will play fullscreen without any borders?

  6. In windvd just use your mouse to drag over the area you want to view. i.e. click and hold mouse button in top left corner drag to bottom right corner, let go of mouse button. This will zoom into the area you have selected. Now double click on the viewing area to get full screen.

I can't drag anything in windvd. If I use the zoom option, I can only zoom in the middle any the image is still widescreen (rectangle). I'm using windvd 4.

  11. why why why would anyone want to view a widescreen picture as fullscreen?

you either a) stretch the WS image vertically, so it makes everyone appear tall and thin, or b) cut off the sides of the widescreen image so you lose up to 40% of the picture.

why don't you just view it like the film makers intended?

'cause I'm not sitting in a theatre in the first 10 rows under a 30 foot screen. I need glasses to watch my 27" TV not to mention watching something on my 17" computer monitor.

Your a) reason is good enough to stop the whole discussion, but your b) reason only cuts it (for me) if I want to watch the whole movie that way. There are many different ways to use a movie. ie. trailer's, capturing for pictures etc.

why don't you just view it like the film makers intended?
Because now we want to view things OUR way!
