  1. As many of you know tmpgenc is slow when your trying to encode, it takes like 24 hours to encode a 44 minute file. is there a faster program?

  2. CCE is among the fastest, costs around $2K though. LSX Mpeg Encoder is pretty fast too.

The speed of TMPEGEnc is based on the speed of your CPU and if you use any filters.

CCE will encode a 40 minute file in about 20 minutes, assuming its an SVCD (480x480). Less for VCD. There are demo versions available, which will leave a logo on your finished MPEG.

I think you would do well to look at the tmpgenc options ....environmetal setting and check your cpu settings.... also put multithread on even though only 1 cpu and check 3 boxes on plus prefetch .

    P3 MMX MMX2 SSE,.... P4 all p3 + SSE2
athlon etc... 3D now. should be on.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

They claim it gives you a 10% boost. I'll stick with CCE...

  9. Aznboi62188,

these things are always a bit 'how long is a piece of string' - but 24hrs to do 44mins on TMPGEnc sounds like a very long time!

as others have said, check all your settings etc..

also, what are the specs of your machine? and what is the format you're putting in and what MPEG are you outputting?

if you've got a reasonably up-to-date system, and you're not doing an unusual encoding, then it looks like you've got things setup wrong somehow. I find TMPGEnc a lot quicker than, say, FlaskMPG with the PanPlugin.

(On my machine - which isn't top-of-the-range, TMPGenc typically takes about 4hrs to encode a 2hr movie frameserving from vDub or DVD2AVI and Flask takes about 8hrs to do the same sort of movie straight from the rip of the vobs, both with all the best quality settings and outputting to VCD/MPEG1)

Finally, in terms of speed vs. quality of the output, have a look at:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/comparison.htm#mpeg

    - for a comparison of some of the most popular encoders, and:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=120954

    - for another thread about the speed of TMPGEnc with different settings.

    'hope this helps,.

I didn't come up with this idea but as I recall setting multithread on is a recommended setting. Those who have tested it notice a minor but definite improvement of about 10%. Obviously setting the right cpu options gives much more like 40 to 50%.

Every little bit helps if it doesn't affect quality.
    =======================================

CCE has been suggested as faster and there is no doubt that it is but then so is Panasonic, LSX or BBmpeg. I won't knock CCE's encoding capacity although my tests didn't show it to be any better and at $2000 its pretty steep for a hobby.
