Using the easy to follow tutorials from this site I ripped and burned my first DVD. But it does not play. I followed the instructions perfectly except for one thing, I burned the movie to a DVD+R instead of DVD-R. Would this make that big of a difference ? Also how do I know if I burned it wrong or its just the brand name ? I've heard people say one brand works better than others, how can I make sure ? Thanks.

try ripping again, and make sure it work, before you burn it

How do you check to make sure it works ? When DVD Decrypter rips it it puts it in a ISO file. When I double click that ISO file to view it, it brings up DVD Decrypter and wants to burn it. I think its ripped properly, the file size is the same as the original.

try using dvd decrypter to rip the dvd to your harddrive in title set form meaning rip the vobs and ifos/bup as they are on the dvd to your hdd then since u are having problems use ifo edit to play the dvd to see if it works...u might need to remove extra rce protections.
if it plays using ifoedit then burn it to a dvd recordable if it still doesnt play think about changing media brands and/or using a different program to burncheck out http://www.geocities.com/eatin_sammiches/sprucecreations.html to download additonal buttons and backgrounds for SPRUCE-UP menu creation -
I have found nero's DVD-Video burning to be completly unrelable. I ended up using DVD Workshop to take the VIDEO_TS folder to DVD-RW and that works for me when nero failed horribly.

+ or - depends on your hardware. Use what your burner supports.
STB DVD players vary on what media types they will play. Check the comments on your dvd player to see if anyone else is having similar problems.
