  1. ok,i've searched the forums and i'm confused.there seems to be alot of dissent about dvd-r media.assuming a price of around £1 a disc, and from suppliers like bigpockets or blankdiscshop.co.uk,which is best for copying dvd movies, especially with regards compatibilty with various set top players.i have a pioneer dvr 104,ideally i'd like to write at 2 speed.thankyou for your time.

  2. I have used over 100 BULK-PAQ DVD-Rs, which cost me £12 for a pack of 25...

    thats under 50p each -

used them on my Pioneer A03 - absolutely perfect - i was expecting problems, as i though - too cheap etc etc

it even plays on my Sony DVD player no problems, which in itself is an acheivement !!!

i think they now do a x2 version at 79p each or so

  4. Bulkpaq G3.2 have been best, I have used so far (got some more reputable disks just recently, but not used yet ), but there are tremendous differences between patches: 2 of 4, I have used, are perfect, 1 has problems on last 5 minutes (I fill to the last MB, if I can) and 1 is not recognized by player. So I can't recommend unless You have use for data storage DVDs. Other cheap media has at least same dye and comes from same manufacturer all the time.

www.mediaforums.net is bit better forum for media tough.

  5. I have been buying only the 25 sealed packs of Bulq-Pak DVD-R.

I have burnt them on Pioneer A03

they are 100% readable on all the DVD players Ive used, including difficult Sony players.

People who say they are not perfect, are not mastering the discs properly OR dont know what theyre talking about.

A disc is a disc, made by machines in dust free factories, why would the last 5 mins cause problems ?

and why dont I get these problems ?

dont blame the discs - blame poor knowledge or blame people trying to promote other brands !

these discs are perfect, try them and see.

PS: they are not the no 1 selling disc in UK and Europe. Theres a reason for that - they are the cheapest and also happen to be the among the best. They use the same Dye as VERBATIM and PIONNER DVD-Rs.

    u work it out.

Glad it is working out fine for you. But there is huge quality/control disparity even among those generic discs. I've tried both -r -rw type media on at least 10 different brands (of 5 each) as well as some "premium" ones.
The typical brand with problem will always have same problem while the others won't. I use DVR-A04 and burnt quite a few things and been playing things on my Toshiba 3800. Since 3800 is -r compatible, I didn't expect any problems.
    1) GQ (another one of generic) burns fine but always halts pause, etc in middle of play. All 5 of them. I've carefully checked if the surface was clean before each burn.
    2) Princo DVD-R - Just won't register at all.
    3) Princo DVD-RW - Just won't register at all.
While others (optodisk, meritline version of optodisc, verbatim, memorex, maxell of -rw/-r) all works wonderfully with my set top box even trying same vob, ifo, etc.
You've been lucky so far but it doesn't warrant the media you are using is fault free.
