  1. Hello,

My question is regarding using Premiere to put two files together that I have edited. My problem is that one is in widescreen (16:9) format and the other is in the regular fullscreen format (4:3). Both NTSC.

Is there anything I can do to put these two files together while keeping the picture from being distorted in either file? I have added clip effects to the (4:3) adding the black "bars" at the top and bottom of the picture, so I would like to add these two together somehow...

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  2. There's no reason to add clip effects to the 4:3 video, unless you want it to have black bars.

I do this with some 16:9 clips to make them 4:3 in Premiere.

Go to Motion. Center the clip throughout its playing time. Go to the setting in the lower corner of the screen (has the video clip with a crosshair on it, I believe. Distort the video's top-left, top-right, bottom-left, and bottom right corners, dragging them down just the right amount to create a 16:9 look. Change the background to black.

Voila! Proper AR. Sorry if it sounds confusing, but it's hard to explain since I don't have Premiere anymore.

    Hope this helped.

  3. Thank you for your reply. I actually found a much easier way to do this in Premiere which doesn't require any manipulation of the clips.

I made a project using Standard format (4:3) and opened the widescreen clip and placed in on the timeline. Once it was on the timeline, you simply just have to right click, go to Advanced Options, and make sure that the clip is recognized as (16:9) widescreen, once that has been confirmed, simply right click on the clip again and then go to Video Options, and click on Maintain Aspect Ratio, and when you preview or render the clip, it will have the nice letterbox look, and you're done!

Nice and easy. Hope this helps anyone having the same problem.
