  1. [b]HELP I downloaded a DIV x Avi file (XXX with Vin Diesel).
My problem is that win media player won't play, it says its in an unrecognised format. When I run it thro' vrtualdub it attempts to convert it before loading. It then states the codec is missing.

Running it thro G spot states the video codec used is DX50 which I understand to be divx 5 codec. this I now have loaded into where video codecs are. However it still will not play.

Can anyone advise where I am going wrong and what I need to do to get it converted?

I have run it thro' tmpg but it loads a pink/green screen at start of encode and then the screen is black!![/list]

  2. Try downloading and installing the NIMO Codec pack from:

    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html

This should install all the codecs you need. It sounds like the film your having trouble with might be encoded with xVid, which is in the pack.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Just for info:

The NIMO light pack does not have the xVid codec in it. You need the full version. You can choose what to install as part of the install routine.

  5. Thanks, I did dowmload nimo lite after reading the sound advice given elsewhere in the forums. I did spend time research forum to see if the answer was contained in another post.

I will try the full version of Nimo and let you know, thanks once again for the assistance.

  6. Guys I've tried the nimo pack, it didn't work. Why won't the avi play through win media player? I have looked at Kazaa and the triple x movie I first downloaded may have had SMR before it. Is there a separate codec for that and would that cause the problems.

Gspot states that all the codecs required are there.

Virtualdub still insists on reindexing the movie. When it finishes it will play a perfect movie but only 2.5 mins long. File information states just over 1 hour long.

I am ripping my hair out with this one, any further help would be much appreciated!!!

  7. AHA! SMR. Shadow Realm. Basically the file you've got is encoded by Shadowrealm. These people encode their movies at a lower quality, with a reduced frame rate to make the file size really small. What size was the file you downloaded? If you want good quality files, make sure the files you download are about 600-700MB for a .avi (divx) file and about 10MB per minute for a .mpg file.

Anyway, if the above is true, you need the codec which you can find at...

    http://www.shadowrealm.info/download.html

Some SMR files are really quite good but a lot are poor (IMHO). You have to decide what quality your happy with as it is a very subjective thing!
