It appears that each tool I try to use to convert a 1 gig MPEG-1 file to a VOB format for DVD takes many many hours to complete the conversion. Is this normal? Is there a faster way?

They also always seem to grow to 7 gig, is this normal?

    Thanks

It's probably the authoring program your using,it's re-encoeing. Try SpruceUp,I've used it to convert VCD/SVCD to DVD-R. You do need to resample the audio to 48000 sampling rate. Rename the new audio file .ac3 and import it into SpruceUp with the .m2v file and it should go very quickly

    Thanks for the quick response.

So I have the 1 gig MPEG file. I tried to import it into Spruce and it dies at 6%. Takes about 5 minutes to do this, but for some reason it keeps terminating.

Should I use TMPGenc to resample and generate the .ac3 and .m2v files? Isn't .m2v MPEG-2?

    Thanks again for the help.

use Tmpeg to do a simple demux into ,m2v and mp2 files. Yes .m2v is mpeg2,but only video. Use Tmpeg to resample audio to 48000.
Rename the new audio file as an .ac3,make sure both files are in the same directory and have the same file name, except for extension of course. Select the m2v in SpruceUp and it will automatically import the ac3 file.
