    Hi,

I have downloaded a divx movie and when I try to convert it to mpg2 it doubles the time from 1h30m to 3hrs!!! Why is it doing it and how do I stop it from doing it. I have other divx movies that convert OK and I have the latest divx codecs installed on my system. I have looked through the forums but to no avail. I have a demo version of honestech mpg converter 4 and that works fine so I guess it may be something in the way the divx was encoded, but the registration fee is expensive and before I do that I want to follow every possible avenue. Do I need to re-encode the divx so it will not increase the size. Any advice would be great.

What exactly doubles the time. Have you actually encoded this to mpeg-2, if so with what encoder?

Sorry, never come accros that one.

I have seen similiar problems on some Divx's wit the TmpGenc encoder. The problem in this case is usually caused by the divx having VBR encoded audio. My solution is as follows:

Download and install goldwave (www.goldwave.com) OPen you avi in goldwave then simply select save as and save out a copy of the audio as an uncompressed PCM wav file (virtualdub can do this too but in this case I find Goldwave more reliable).

Then when you encode to mpeg-2, select this wav file as the audio source and you .avi file as the video source.

Let me know how you get on.

    Hi,

Sorry its taken so long to reply but I have been off line for a while.

Yes, it worked great and now have a better understanding of how divx works. Your solution worked a treat.

    Many thanks
